So, this is pretty crazy.
For a limited time, Southwest is currently running a really rare promotion for their credit card right now where they are giving away a FREE companion pass.
If you aren’t aware, the Southwest Companion pass allows you to basically get a buy-one-get-one-free ticket for every plane ticket you buy for a year.
So, this means that I can fly somewhere every week this year, and Linda will get to fly for FREE with me.
The reality is I probably won’t be flying every week, but getting a dozen free flights out of it this year is entirely possible.
Breakdown of how we could do this…
The signup bonus includes 30k bonus points as well.
So, just a quick search on the Southwest site I see that I can fly down to Destin Florida for 6,433 points.
Assuming the return flight is similar, we are looking at about 13k points round-trip.
AND because of the companion pass Linda will get to fly FREE.
So these 30k bonus points + Companion pass could easily turn into 4 free flights right there (13k +13k = 26k)
All this to say, I don’t open many credit cards anymore, but this deal is just too good to pass up, so yesterday, I applied for the card.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know about it in case you are wanting to do a little traveling this year.
Details about the Southwest Promo
- To get the Companion Pass and the 50k bonus points, you need to spend $1k on the card in 3 months.
- The card has a $69 annual fee.
- The Companion Pass is good through 02/28/25.
- You’ll earn 2x points on Southwest purchases, internet, cable, and phone services.
- You’ll earn 1 point for every dollar spent on all other purchases.
Warning…
And as always, when I talk about credit cards, please be wise and follow our 3 credit card rules we lay out in our book Simple Money, Rich Life.
Namely, just ignore this promo if you plan on carrying a balance on the card. If you do, you’ll end up paying way more in interest charges than you’ll get in rewards.
But if you know yourself, use wisdom, and follow those 3 rules, you can take advantage of promos like this and come out way ahead.
That’s all for today!
Your friend and coach,
